By Anne Schreiber she immediately caught the readers attention by starting off with rhetorical questions and a full-page image. She then goes on to showing a map and locates where penguins live, brining a pretty big factor that this is an informational book. The picture glossary is a great activity for kids to do at the end.

It gives main vocab with pictures and then a fill in the blank section to go along with the vocab. My overall impression of the book was good! I thought it was a great informational book for children while keeping them interested in the pictures and fun text fonts. But it does say its appropriate for first graders through fifth graders. The Table of Contents allows the reader to see exactly what they will be reading about in the book.

All of the national geographic books are similar, therefore students can continue learning about text features and become more familiar with non fiction books. In learning teams, each will research and study a type of bird, reptile, insect, amphibian, fish or mammal. They will spend time looking for specific information such as: body characteristics, habitat, diet, and any other interesting facts.

    They will note this on chart paper divided in 4 cells.

    Each child will have a specific job recorder will write. After a few days of research and working on their chart paper together, we will share our findings. Students used post-it notes to compliment other teams on their hard work. From this assignment, we then used the information and they created their own All About book.
